This patient had severely worn teeth probably due to grinding his teeth in his sleep.  There was not enough room to place crowns on the most severely worn teeth unless root canal treatment was performed.  In this case, we opened his bite with an orthodontic retainer, and erupted his back teeth with orthodontic rubber bands.  This allowed the back teeth to come together in a proper bite while at the same time, creating space to place crowns on the three most severely worn teeth of the group of lower front teeth.  Now these teeth will be protected from further wear for many years to come.
